What is the correct formatting for APA Style references?
Answer
Every time you quote, paraphrase or summarize someone else's work, you must credit their contributions by identifying that work and making it possible for your reader to find your source. References include this information:
- Who created the work: Author or organization name
- When it was published: Year or date of publication
- What is it called: Title of the work
- Where the reader can find a copy or information: Journal Name, Webpage name, publisher etc.
Organize this information using APA Style 7th edition format rules depending on the type of source it is (website, journal article, book, etc). Here a few commonalities to how references are formatted no matter the source type:
- Use a "Hanging Indent" style so all lines lines after the first are indented
- A period after each reference element— e.g: Author. Date. Title.
- Capitalize the first word of article/book titles
- Italicize periodical titles
