What is peer-review?

Answer

Peer-review is an editorial process typically used by scholarly, academic journals and books. The process involves review and approval by one or more "peers", or experts in that field for accuracy and completeness.

An academic journal will include content that has not undergone peer-review such as:

  • letters to the editor
  • editorials
  • news

See the "What are scholarly or academic sources?" to review a checklist of characteristics of a scholarly article.
