How do I find a scholarly or academic article?
Answer
Finding Scholarly Articles Using Library Search
Library Search allows you to search all the Library Databases at once, so if you are not sure which database to search in, this is the best place to start.
- Enter a keyword search in Library Search
- Once on the search result page, select the "Peer Reviewed" filter in the Content Type filters and the "Article" filter under Format
- To access an article from the search result page, click on the "View full text" button
- Review the article to ensure that it is a scholarly article (read more here)
Peer-reviewed resources in Library Search will be marked with "Peer Reviewed" icon
Finding Scholarly Articles Using Individual Library Databases
- Choose one of the journal article databases on the A to Z list. Review the database descriptions to find the best match for your topic or assignment. For example if you are researching a disease, choose one of the health science subject databases such as CINAHL Complete.
- Enter your topic keywords (read more about keywords here) into the database search box. Use the database filters to narrow the search result list down to "Academic Journals", "Scholarly Journals" or "Peer-Reviewed" articles, the name of the filter will vary between different databases.
- Review the article to ensure that it is a scholarly article (read more here)
