How do I use the Blackboard Ultra Discussion Board?

Your instructor may expect you to create your own discussion posts as well as respond to other student's on a topic related to your class. Discussions may be required and graded and have specific class requirements, make sure to review all of your instructor's guidelines or grading rubric for discussion posts. 

Find Discussions

In your Ultra course, select the Discussions icon from the navigation bar, select a discussion from the list. They can also appear in your course content or if they have a due date you can also find them on the pages for: grades, calendar or activity stream. Here is an example of it appearing in the content page, discussions have a chat bubble icon:

Once you select a discussion, they appear like this:

  1. Discussion should have a description of the topic you need to address in your response 
  2. Details maybe including a Grading Rubric with the discussion requirements, like how long it should be etc.
  3. Click on 'Type a response' to open the text editor and create your discussion post
  4. You may not be able to view other students discussions until you have posted one first 

Participate in Discussions

Remember to review any discussion instructions and grading rubric before you submit your discussion post. Click on the 'Type a response' :

  1.  This will open a text editor, allows you to format your text, add images, links, attachments and more
  2. When you complete a response, click "Respond" to have it shared with your instructor and classmates or discussion group
  3. You can also click on "Save Draft" if you are not ready, when you open the discussion your draft can be clicked on to edit further

Once you have created a discussion, you can edit or delete your response, and/or reply to your own or others discussion posts.

  1. Click on the 3 dots by your own post
  2. You can click on Edit or Delete
  3. Click on reply below a discussion to respond
